ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND GOALS FOR DISTRICT ^
WHY I AM RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION FOR DISTRICT 6 ALDERPERSON
I have been a nearly life long resident of Wausau with most of my time spend in District 6, specifically the Riverview neighborhood. I moved back here after living in Madison, moved back to Riverview to raise my children in the same neighborhood I grew up in. I understand the neighborhood and its changes through the last 45 plus years.
I have been engaged in city government in different facets and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my lifetime. I was told Wausau would never hire a humane officer, or discuss pet limits, I was wasting my time. Through compromise, education and perseverance the sub committee I was part of came up with a workable solution and the position is one of the busiest in the police department.
I humbly was elected in 2016 to represent District 6, which includes the neighborhoods of Riverview and Forest Park. During my tenure I have been readily available to all who have contacted me by phone, email, messaging system and neighborhood groups. I survey my residents regarding any controversial or major legislation by knocking doors, taking phone calls and resident emails, updating the Nextdoor group of Aldermanic Updates of District 6, and frequent posts on Next door. Unfortunately due to Next door neighborhood delineation I am not afforded the opportunity to have a group from Forest Park. We are working with Nextdoor to allow this in the future. I believe greatly in representing my constituents and I cannot do that if I do not fully inform and represent the needs of all.
I can honestly can say I worked very hard on every concern or problem my residents came to be with, meeting with residents when needed to see understand their needs. I organized meetings between resident groups and city officials acting as a liaison to increase communication between taxpayers and their government. I am proud of pushing for road improvements resulting in many roads finally getting updates with asphalt overlay and other improvements. I understood resident concerns regarding traffic especially speed throughout our residential neighborhoods. I am thankful Wausau Police Department responded quickly to our concerns resulting in increased police presence and traffic control. WPD made 105 traffic stops alone in a recent month for Sector A which includes our neighborhoods. I also am in discussions with DPW (Department of Public Works) regarding other traffic calming measures which can be used especially on arterial streets where I receive most complaints.
II believe in common sense government. I want local government to provide the public service that is needed for the resident's safety, well being and enhancing resident's life. We need to be good stewards of the taxpayers money, making sure expenditures have the taxpayer's best interest at heart. I have sleepless nights over votes which require our city to borrow millions more increasing the debt exponentially. I believe heartily in economic development for our city which increases our tax base to lessen our taxpayers property tax burden, but it must be done wisely and safely not exposing taxpayers to undue risks.
The most important point I believe in is doing the will of the voter/residents of District 6. I have no further agenda or any other motive in running besides doing the will of the people I would serve. I have been very active in getting the Riverview Neighborhood Association up and running, and have heard your opinions, complaints and compliments of Wausau. I have taken these issues to the proper place in administration and in the Mayor's words I'm the "pit bull" of the council fighting for my residents. I ALWAYS speak of my residents desire in both committee and council meetings. All meetings are videotaped and our available on the city website. I encourage all to watch and become involved in your local government.
Lastly I am running to try to finish some neighborhood projects such as finding a permanent placement for an ice rink. The ice rink at Riverview school was a 45 year tradition. I skated their as a child as did my children while attending Riverview. I feel we must keep these recreational spaces in our neighborhoods as this is what makes Wausau different and special. I have great confidence in our group which includes two passionate Riverview residents, we will find our permanent place for our rink. We are working towards a public/private partnership of business and local foundations to make this happen and help defray costs. I also want to keep working towards traffic calming procedures, strengthening our partnership with WPD. We have our neighborhood police officers who patrol our sector attend every neighborhood meeting be it Riverview or Forest Park to speak to your concerns or questions.
I can honestly say I have worked tirelessly for our district and city and even though I have most likely disappointed some in one vote or another I always listened and learned hearing everyone's experience and views. I hope I gained your confidence and earned your vote on April 3, 2018 for another term as your alderperson.
